US Army Pacific Reunites with TWD for new Exhibit

Posted on Jan 11, 2017

The Background

In 2014 Third Wave Digital worked with Third Army ARCENT, then under the command of Vincent K. Brooks, to create an interactive trade show exhibit to support their marketing efforts. After Commander Brooks was transferred to U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC), he commissioned Third Wave to once again create an exhibit, this time for USARPAC’s new Mission Command Facility.  The new exhibit includes two presentations: A historical timeline featuring a multimedia presentation on USARPAC’s illustrious history and a second, trivia-based challenge game.

The Goal

The goal of this project was to provide an educational presentation that will inform and entertain visitors to Fort Shafter’s new Mission Command Facility on the rich heritage and history of the U.S. Army’s presence in the pacific region. The presentation needed to function with little or no interface from base personnel and it must be easy to move to other areas of the Mission Command center as needed.

The Process

Third Wave Digital conducted research to develop content for the timeline and worked closely with the USARPAC team to ensure the final presentation included many diverse aspects of its history.   With content approval, Third Wave Digital provided post production services to assemble archival video footage and photos into a rich-media timeline covering US Army’s presence in the Pacific from the 19th century to today.  Using information collected while researching the timeline, Third Wave Digital then customized their popular trivia challenge game which tests visitors on what they’ve learned.   The dual nature of this exhibit provides a tremendous amount of information in a casual learning experience that is fun and engaging.

The Outcome

U.S. Army Pacific now has a high-tech, low maintenance tool for use in its marketing and public outreach. The exhibit features a customized cabinet enclosure that fits the décor of the new Mission Command facility and is highly mobile for deployment throughout the base.  It highlights little known aspects of USARPAC history such as the role of African Americans soldiers at the turn of the 19th century, the part played by women in homeland defense and the participation of the Nisei (those of Japanese descent) in the Army during World War II. The interactive nature of both the timeline and challenge game provides a customizable experience for visitors to learn and explore at their own pace.
